A Multiscale Region Detector ’ : DOROTHEA BLOSTEIN

چکیده
A multiscale region detector is derived from properties of a v ‘G (Laplacian-of-Gaussian) scalespace. The detector finds all image regions that have small gray-level variation relative to a neighborhood of their size. These regions may he nested. Since the region detector is designed as a coarse estimator of region size and shape, it is better suited for texture element extraction than for general image segmentation. Uniform gray level regions are represented by a configuration of best-fitting disks of appropriate sizes and locations contained within the regions. The sizes and locations of best disks are estimated from the observed response of the v ‘G operator across the image and across scales, using an analytic expression for the response of v2G to disks. Both positive-contrast and negative-contrast regions are detected, and an estimate of region contrast is computed. Results are shown for a variety of natural textures.

Shape From Texture: Integrating Texture-Element Extraction and Surface Estimation
A perspective view of a slanted textured surface shows systematic changes in the density, area, and aspect-ratio of texture elements. These apparent changes in texture element properties can be analyzed to recover information about the physical layout of the scene. However, in practice it is difficult to identify texture elements, especially in images where the texture elements are partially oc...

Mathematics notation contains a variety of tabular structures, including matrices, lists of expressions in a derivation, stacked limit expressions in a summation, and conditional expressions in a function definition. Tabular structures are particularly difficult to recognize in handwritten mathematics notation, due to irregular placement and sizing of symbols. In this paper we briefly survey pr...

13 Over the past two years I have undergone a difficult process of large-scale fascial unwinding. In this article I describe my personal impression of the mechanics and forces in fascial unwinding. My impressions have been shaped by treatments provided by four manual therapists (who are not to blame for any misconceptions in this article): osteopath Robert Black, chiropractor Brent Helmstaedt, ...
